Algarve picks up top awards

Regional tourism received a boost by picking up the Best National Tourism Region award at the Annual Tourism Gala in Lisbon.

The event, organised by Portuguese tourist newspaper Publituris and held at St George Castle on July 2, was attended by leading figures from the Portuguese tourism sector, including the Algarve tourism board (ERTA) President Antonio Pina.

“I dedicate this award to our collaborators, partners and professionals in the tourist sector for their excellent work,” Antonio Pina told the Algarve Resident.

“The award reflects the efforts of a whole team of professionals in the region and not just an entity.”

This is the third consecutive year that the Algarve has taken home the prestigious regional award, along with two others for the Best Golf Course (Oceanico Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura) and Best Rent-a-Car company (AutoJardim in Albufeira).

Chris Stilwell, CEO of Oceanico Golf, told the Algarve Resident: “The Oceanico Victoria Golf Course has received this prestigious award for the third year running. I congratulate our staff who have put in a lot of effort and dedication into keeping the golf course to its current high standards.”
